The municipality, together with the local housing associations, is working on the urban renewal for a 1950's neighbourhood in Zaandam, Poelenburg. Urhahn Urban Design has drawn up the urban design as a Section for the integral development plan. In this design, the connection between the neighbourhood and the city centre of Zaandam will be improved. Cultural values that have disappeared when the neighbourhood was built will be brought back, and by adding new family homes to the existing high rise, a more relaxed environment for various people is created. The highroad will be made safer and friendlier, and a social cluster will become a new heart of the neighbourhood. On December 17 2009, the Council approved the plan.
