INDUSTRY IN THE CITY
Typological and functional exploration
London’s planning policies aim for housing intensification but seek to protect employment uses, including industry and warehousing. In this context, we explored the possibilities for intensifying employment areas through high-density building typologies which could include residential accommodation in close proximity. Based on a case study of the and international best practice research, we proposed a range of strategies at area, block and building scale proposing realistic design solutions for issues such as transport and logistics, noise and visual amenity, public space quality and shared social infrastructure. Interviews with international experts provide a picture of obstacles and delivery strategies.
